Educational Practice
Leadership and Coaching
The largest component of my current role is coaching and development of my team, along with training and onboarding of new hires. Due to the nature of this type of work, this requires a behaviourist approach, with clear objectives that must be achieved. However, due to my strong humanistic beliefs I approach this work by setting a foundation of safe spaces, collaboration, recognizing and adapting to the experiences of learners while integrating experiential learning and hands-on experiences. In this role I attempt to guide learners through experiential learning toward the desired outcomes, acting as a facilitator in the process.
Below are links to resources I have created which can be shared. Many of the projects that I work on and develop are for internal use only and housed on the company shared drives which cannot be included in this work.
Medical Education
Medical education for clinicians falls into one of two categories – one which is industry driven, focused on product promotion and the safe and effective use of that company’s products, and accredited continuing medical education where the focus is not on a particular product but rather a class of products as well as disease states. Both types of medical education are highly regulated, with many industry guidelines and internal standards which must be met.
In the development of medical education programs I have experience in organizing focus groups to conduct needs assessments on a variety of topics, developing specific learning objectives based on the needs assessment, creating and validating curriculum designed to meet the learning objectives that were identified, creating resources to compliment the curriculum, working with subject matter experts and external speakers/consultants who will present the content or facilitate the sessions, and finally in developing and validating evaluation tools to gauge program effectiveness and practice change. In addition, I have created and delivered virtual learning sessions delivered via various online platforms, based on the same process of engaging stakeholders to conduct needs assessments to create the content of the program.
Developing medical education programs, as well as working with specialists/content experts who deliver education programs, has been a significant part of my professional role. However, as with corporate training, these programs are proprietary and remain the property of the company which limits my ability to share content. Below you will find examples highlighting the scope of a few of the programs I have developed in conjunction with content experts.
